FAQs

How will I get to/from your wedding venue and get around the area generally?

We are providing a shuttle service to transport our guests from the parking lot across the street from Flour + Water Pizzeria (3483 18th St, San Francisco, CA 94110) in the Mission District in San Francisco to our wedding venue and back again! It is so important to us that our loved ones not drink and drive, so please, please, please take advantage of this option if you plan to drink at our wedding. The first shuttle will leave at 3:00pm to get to the venue in time for our 4:30pm ceremony. If you miss the last shuttle at 4:00pm or are staying outside of SF, we recommend that you plan to grab a Lyft, Uber, or taxi to the venue.

For our visiting friends and family: getting around the SF Bay can be an adventure! For those inclined to public transportation, BART and MUNI are your best bets, but be mindful of the time (they don’t run 24/7). We love Zipcar and Getaround whenever we want to rent cars for short periods in the city. Lyft and Uber are the easiest taxi-esque rideshare options, and because SF is in the cradle of the tech world, they’re also very prevalent and fast just about everywhere.

Will Dr. Biscuit be there?

You better believe it, he is our furry 8-year old-son, after all! We’ll have lots of treats handy for those who want to say hi, but he’s very shy and easily overwhelmed, so please don’t be hurt if he’s not super friendly at first.

What is the dress code for your wedding?

Is “Shipwrecked Cocktail Cruise Chic” not clear to you? Yeah, it’s not to us either but we love it. You know that we’re not super fancy people and our wedding isn’t super fancy either (it’s in a funky greenhouse). Kasper will, however, be wearing a suit, and Marcy will be wearing a dress.

We love you just the way you are, so the most important thing to us is that you feel fabulous and comfortable. Bring layers, as the temperatures will fluctuate. Bring or wear semi-comfy shoes in case you want to cut a rug. Otherwise, we have no asks. Text Marcy if you’d like additional guidance.

What will the weather be like at your venue?

This is tough to predict! Pacifica is right on the ocean (hence the name), and can be sunny/gorgeous, foggy/moody, or sometimes both in the same day.

Data from the last few years of weather reports for that date indicate temperatures can be as low as 49F/10C late at night and as high as 70F/21C during the day.

Essentially, if it’s sunny outside, the venue could be quite warm (it’s a greenhouse after all), and then will cool down quite a bit in the evening. Bring layers that you can put on or take off, and comfy shoes to change into for dancing :).

Are you concerned about the wildfire and power outage situation in Northern California?

Short answer: Yes! We are keeping an eye on both the wildfire tracker and the power outage tracker maps and will keep all of you updated if it looks like we will be making any changes to our plans.

Long answer: It’s wildfire season in Northern California, and PG&E has been preemptively cutting off electricity to customers in areas that are prone to wildfires due to the strong winds this week. Shelldance Orchid Gardens is located in an area that falls into the “extreme risk” category, and it is possible that the power to the venue will get cut if PG&E decides that it is necessary to do so. If it is a simple matter of the power being shut down, we will likely keep our plans as they are, but if a wildfire develops nearby, we will reevaluate. The safety of our guests is paramount to us and we would never want to put you in harm’s way.

What is the venue like?

Shelldance Orchid Gardens is a series of active orchid greenhouses, joined together at the base of a beautiful, hilly state park. Inside the venue, it’s pretty rustic—concrete floors below your feet, plants and Spanish moss everywhere you turn.

Step outside and you can see the Pacific Ocean and the rolling hills of the California coastline. The state park above the gardens is open and absolutely gorgeous—the initial ascent is a little on the steep side, so we recommend sturdy shoes (not stilettos!) if you decide to explore. We will have our food truck vendors parked just outside the venue in the dirt parking lot, so you can enjoy some beautiful views with your tacos!

Do you have a gift registry?

The biggest gift you can give us is your continued friendship and love! Your presence at our wedding ceremony means so much to us. If you feel inclined to go above and beyond, we suggest that you make a small donation to your favorite organization or charity.

As a jumping off point, we adopted our little Chihuahua/Dachshund pup, Dr. Biscuit, from Muttville Senior Dog Rescue—a wonderful senior dog rescue organization—back in January, and he has made our lives so rich and delightful these past 10 months. Donations help them to do the amazing work they do for dogs and families in Northern California, and they would be so grateful for any contribution. <3
